Default OEM Air Suspension won’t air up

OEM Air Suspension 98 Ls400

I lowered the ride height sensors a few days ago but then decided it rode too rough so I set them back to their original height. I can’t be sure but I think the back two bags went back to the original height but the front two bags didn’t reinflate. Any ideas?

the ride height controller in the car doesn’t do anything and didn’t do anything even before I messed with the sensors.

there is a possibility you worsened an already weak air suspension by altering the height sensors. in other words you may have produced a leak into the front bags, or other components, when you changed the height sensors. air suspension on these cars are very old and the most common problem is a physical leak in the bag/bellow. spray some soapy water onto the bags themselves. bubbles would present themselves if there was a leak.

how sure are you that returned the height sensors properly? there is a front AND a rear sensor.

Sensors are definitely back to original. Front and back both measured. I tried changing the back again to see if they would go up or down so that I could make sure the compressor was fine and they seem to have raised even more but I put the sensors down. Makes me think that the sensors are no good but it seems that the front has its own problems.

Given that the front is equal on both sides and hasn’t sagged any lower then when I altered the sensors, it makes me think it’s not the bags themselves but I will check for leaks.

- I have also driven with the bags lowered in the front and they didn’t delete anymore. I expect it’s something to do with the sensors or the wiring to the compressor in the front relay -

Is it on the ground, or just lowered?

I've got a controller hooked up and I notice from time to time that it is doing weird stuff also. Not raising properly or not lowering properly. Sitting crooked.

For me it sometime helped if I raised it with the **** on the center console, let it do its thing and then let it settle again at ride height

If its on the ground, it could be a leak, although I feel like it would be a coincidence if both bags stated to leak.

Nah just lowered. Not on the ground. Back tyres are approximately 55-60 mm from the fender. Front are about 25.

And my center console switch doesn’t do anything.

i can never hear the compressor run or air out so it seems like there’s a connection issue

I worry that the suspension control computer is messed up adjusting sensors strangely. I'd try resetting it disconnecting the battery terminal for a few hours or more. The reason for such a long time is to erase stray electrons.

I disconnected the positive terminal for an hour then put it back in and started the car. No change

guess it’s time for coil overs. Bye bye smooth suspension

I vaguely recall seeing a recalibration procedure someplace ::shrug::. I'll post it if I come across it. Might be worth the time going thru the procedure

At one point I did also have a red dot on my dash near the odometer read out/ range etc. it happened once I originally lowered to sensors.

Also the car is a celsior. Not sure if that’s relevant but at the same time I got the light, the dash display started spitting some Japanese at me. Translated one reading says headlight system and the other says Mimaedoa

So, I want to get back at this.

Today I had the issues also, and I have this occasionally.

Airsuspension is totally unresponsive.

I have an airsus controler so I have more then one way to control is and its just not responding at all. And most likely when I get in tomorrow it will settle it self again. I have already tried a different (factory) suspension computer.

Anyone got experience with this issue?

I pulled apart my suspension the other day and found that the front bags are full of rust and they were foaming with white froth.

I’ll attach a photo but it’s a bit unclear.

I also then took them all out and put it on coilovers which has unfortunately sacrificed the ride quality but it sits nice now.
