OD/off flashing
Hi, I have a 93 with only 89,000 kilometers on it. I put in a refurbished ECU and cluster gauge, both from Tanix. Everything works fine on the car now, except for a flashing OD/OFF warning light on the gauge cluster that comes on after the car gets driven for a while, but is not there when the car isnt driven that much in a day, or when it starts and you begin driving it. It was the same flashing situation before the cluster and ECU were replaced. The transmission works fine and my mechanic says there are no problem codes. I have read all the info I can on this site, and I think that I just have some electronics bug that makes the flashing come on. Should I go to a lexus dealer and see if they can find a code that perhaps my local guy could not find or just chalk it up to the bug in the warning light itself? No code means no problem, or does it? Any advice would be great. The car is without any problems and is a real time capsule, which makes the one issue of the flashing OD/OFF very annoying.

Reading engine codes is done via different pins vs transmission codes your mechanic should know this. Your car is OBD-I there are no code readers (except made by Toyota but no one has one of those).

It's a fancy word for a jumper wire

Note that tutorial is for a similar but different procedure and he's using the DLC2 diagnostic port under the dash instead of the engine bay port.

We need to confirm with the 1993 FSM; the diagnostics section should have the procedure to access the transmission trouble codes.
Although, even though it's OBDI, there's still some semblance of a standard; the procedure posted for the Camry should work.

DO NOT short Tt and E1 on the LS 400. That's used for measuring the TPS voltage according to the manual.
Follow LexLS' tutorial:

Or the following:
The codes can be translated using the LexLS link

16 gauge solid core wire should do the trick. Alternatively, you could get 16 gauge stranded wire (like what is shown in LexLS' photo) or 16 gauge speaker wire. You really don't need a lot, so getting a small amount for less than $10 on Amazon would be fine
You will need both ends of the wire to be exposed of course, once you cut a piece. You can slice off the shielding with a pair of scissors if you don't have a wire cutter, too. I'm sure there's a video of someone demonstrating this

I did the diagnostic as suggested and I have a transmission code 61. This is “number 2 speed sensor” . Are there 2 speed sensors, and does that mean my number 2 one is faulty? Is this the part I need to replace the old one with?

It means either the sensor is faulty or the circuit is faulty. I "think" there are two sensors; I believe No. 2 is the sensor in the rear of the transmission.
One speed sensor is towards the front of the transmission case, the other is in the rear. Bot positions use the same sensor.
If you don't want to spend $95 +shipping for OEM, Rock Auto carries aftermarket options.

Thanks for all your help. I am getting the speed sensors replaced next week and hopefully that will be an end to the flashing light on the dash. I will update when it is done. What a great site this is. So helpful.
