Default Speedo needle and ecu reset

(92 SC300) I'm planning on sending my speedo cluster to AudioGodz for needle fix. Was told I will have to reset codes by resetting ecu when I put it back. Is it as easy as just disconnecting battery for ecu reset and will I be ok driving without cluster for a week or two....other than possible speeding tickets, running out of gas, etc. Any insight and advice is appreciated. Thanks

Well, I'm not sure about the SC, but I know that the IS has an ECU in the cluster itself... this guy ruined his cluster ECU by messing with his headlights -- wanted JDM Altezza headlights instead of the US Spec... personally I think they're ugly, but that's another topic.

I'd be a bit worried about driving around w/out a cluster... besides the legal ramifications, it's incredably ghetto and I don't know if the car will even start... It's a Lexus, please treat it kindly. So many ravaged cars come into my dealership... it's painful really. I'd have driving w/out a cluster as last resort.

Default Driving w/o cluster

I don't know about the sc300, but on the sc400 if you drive with the cluster removed I believe when you put it back the air bag light will come on and won't go off. From what I hear it's hard to reset this light.

You'll be fine, I've done it before. The only thing that will be different is your power steering will default to full assist while the cluster is disengaged. When you plug it back in, it will take the speedometer a few minutes to recalibrate.

even if he drives it? i thought that stored a code that needed to be reset, by reading the threads around here.

Nope, I've done it twice before on a 1995 SC400.
