Question LS400 Addons / Options

Does anyone have a list or any images of the catalog (or whatever was used) for people to select options on the LS400? (Air Ride, Moon Roof, etc)

I've looked everywhere and I'm not even sure if these exist but I'm curious since there are so many different options people talk about.

But I think a lot of options on the LS were few and far between. A lot of options came as standard equipment.

Have you tried decoded your VIN? Some online VIN decoders are more detailed than others. Most only contain info that's readily available from the sales brochure. I wonder if you can get a detailed list via VIN from your local dealership? They have to be able to see what equipment the car came with to order parts, etc.

The only other way I can think of is if you can find the window sticker.

It would be nice if Toyota did something similar to what GM does and put a label on the vehicle listing the available options the vehicle has. Each three digit alpha numeric code (Regular Production Order) corresponds to an available option. It's detailed down to the spring rate of the installed springs.

GM SPID showing available options (VIN removed).

Early cars had the option of wool instead of leather for their interiors. Very, very, very rare option, that's why it was killed off.

To directly answer your question: Sunroof, yes or no. Air suspension, yes or no. Premium audio, yes or no. Those 3 thing will be the options included or not included on 99% of cars ever produced. I think there were car phones, but I'm not clear if that was aftermarket dealer installed or OEM from Toyota. Additionally, as Stroock posted above, from 98-00, navigation touchscreen became an optional extra as well, along with the HID headlights bundled with the CD changer.

There are a couple of special editions starting I think in 1997 with Platinum Edition or Coach edition, I think they had special colors and interior leathers, but were otherwise functionally identical. I don't think many of those were ever produced.

Oh interesting in that brochure it says traction control is optional, at least in the 1990 model.

There are a bunch of little small things like this which are... difficult to keep track of, or, even have a record of. Toyota didn't do a very good job of documenting the car, and the changes made to it over the lifespan. And we don't have rennlist or ferrarichat with 80,000 people to comb through every last scrap of information and compile these lists.

I have a car phone that is OEM, same with heated seats and TRAC (although neither of those are working)

besides that, I've also seen ones with silver badges but mine has gold, whats up with that?

are you familiar with options for the celsior type c? you could get things like radar cruise (on the UCF20), a fax machine in the glove box, and a big air purification system behind the back seat so you could chain smoke mild sevens in the middle of a thunderstorm all the way to your next meeting and still have fresh clean air to breathe lmao

as is typical, the japanese and europeans always keep the best stuff for themselves :D

I know that not all models came with these options, there was basically a poverty spec. Silver badge is the lower end model. These don’t have traction control, heated seats, heated mirrors, reclining rear seats and probably some other things as well. Some of the gold badges also don’t come with traction control either. I really wish there was more info on what the options as for add ons were.

The gold or silver badging does not necessarily designate a lower end versus a higher end model. The gold badging is an optional accessory

The brochures Stroock639 and I posted lay out the options and accessories

It was possible to have a silver badge LS 400 that is "fully loaded" with a moonroof, traction control, heated and memory seats, etc.

In 1990, it was also just as possible to have a car with no options, but gold badging.

Reclining rear seats were not an option on the LS 400, but rather only on Celsiors. They started to become available on the LS in the LS 430 model years

Heated mirrors were standard, but ultrasonic and power folding mirrors were Japanese market only options.

Options also varied depending on the generation and model year of the LS 400
