Default Keyless Entry Issue 2000 ls400

I have two working keys with new batteries. Both keyless fobs stopped working. I tried to reprogram one without success. Not the easiest task in the world but odd they both stopped working at the same time. Any ideas on what may have caused this? Thanks!

One note. The only code my car has right now is for knock sensors, which it has had for a while.

Are both keys original to the car?

Does the LED in the key FOB light up when the buttons are pushed? Is the red LED on the FOB dim?

Where did you get the replacement batteries from? Depending on where you purchased them, they could be old. Batteries from places that don't have a lot of foot traffic have been known to be stale (slow turn over).

TIP: Don't replace the batteries with Renata. These are notorious leakers. Some report Duracell are leak prone too.

How far away are you from the door? Manual states that the range is only 1 meter (~3 feet). Yeah, I know....I can open my doors when I'm ~ 20 feet away.

If you're feeling ambitious, see attached. Read DI-676 first.

Thanks paulo57509 for the reply. Both keys are original and both red led lights light up when button is pressed. When I test them both I am right next to the door. I think I used Duracell batteries but I will have to check. Before this issue I could lock from 15 or more feet away.

Did you keep track of which key you tried to reprogram? I think you need to have one key that's already programmed in order to program the other.

There's a difference between programming the transponder and programming the remote. I have the attached what I think is the button programming procedure, just for reference for you to compare with what you did.

I did not keep track of which key I use. I will when I go to reprogram again.

A smart guy would use a technique of heterodyne system. He simply uses a FM radio to confirm that the commander is transmitting the radio wave 315MHz.

Set your FM radio to catch around 97.867MHz. The reason why 97.867MHz is to use the 3rd harmonic of the local oscillator. When you set the frequency 97.867MHz, the local oscillator is working at 10.7MHz higher than that which is 108.567MHz.

The 3rd harmonic of 108.567MHz is 325.7MHz. 325.7MHz is 10.7MHz higher than 315MHz. Due to the immunity issue, you can catch the commander's signal setting your FM radio 97.867MHz. So you can catch the commander's radio wave setting a FM radio 97.867MHz. Since this method is to use the immunity/spurius issue and the commander should be placed within a couple inches from the FM radio.
