Smile My current LS 400 dilemma - too many LS's

rHi my fellow Lex heads.
I'm looking for suggestions, any and all will be considered and appreciated. I currently have a '95 LS, '98 LS and will soon be acquiring an LS430 from my brother-in-law because its in pristine condition. My dilemma, is what to do with my '95 LS (da BEAST!) which has been "personally", "lovingly" and supremely maintained by yours truly for the past 16yrs. The problem is my '95 needs a head gasket which I had planned to do over the next month until the LS 430 came into the picture. I know psychologically that it may not be a good thing for humans to become emotionally attached to machines, but news flash......I AM. So in essence I will have 3 LS's and to make matters worse, I'm now down to one driver, me. I've going to keep the '98 LS as a back up, so (unfortunately) da BEAST has to go, but where? At this point, I don't want to give it more tlc by replacing the hg and reconditioning the heads, and then sell it for a fraction of what it's truly worth, and I know no one is going to pay me anything near what it's worth if they have to replace the hg themselves. I would actually hold on to all 3 if I had some place to keep them, but that's not practical either. What's even more ironic last year I had the '95 given a fresh new coat of paint, one month later the hg blew, go figure. My question to you my fellow Lex heads, what would you do in this situation? Tia.

Cheers,

The LS400GUY soon to be LS400/430GUY:-)

What I would do isn't recommended. So, hopefully the others on here can point you in the right direction.

I'd buy another house with more shop/garage space.

Its amazing you would suggest that (you're kidding right?) because I've been seriously considering looking into an affordable garage storage space but 100 bucks-plus per month is much too expensive for what I need. I almost wish I never committed to buy the LS430, but the purchase price is absolutely something I couldn't pass up, it is what it is.

I was joking. I did that exact thing three times in four years, that's why I don't recommend it. I now have 7 garage bays and our daily drivers still sit outside. It's a never ending paradox. I'm trying to convince my wife to let me build a giant shop with a bedroom and kitchen but that's not going over very well..

If I were in your shoes, I'd fix Da Beast and keep driving it until it sold. Bring a Trailer might be a good place for it. Nationwide coverage, people with more money than sense, and they'll handle all of the shipping stuff.

If the '98 is just a backup.. sell it, uses proceeds to fix Beast, keep Beast and LS430. Or buy LS430, enjoy for a year or two, sell it for a profit, fix Beast then.

Hey Tom great stuff! Thanks, basically I'm leaning towards buying the LS430 because that's a "must", and like you've suggested drive it for a year and then decide on what to do. I guess I can wait another 9 months or so to sort things out. It's tough giving up the '98 also, I bought that for my wife in 2005, its also been a beast as well but I don't have the same "personal" attachment:-) I would like to give it to a family member but as you might know, unless they can turn the wrenches themselves, they'll get taken for a ride with maintenance rqmts. Bottomline, I guess I'll sit on everything instead of making any sudden moves that I may regret later on. Who knows, the LS430 may grow on me to the point I can part with one 400's a lot easier. Thanks for your input good buddy.

Cheers,
