Default Is the gold paint on 90-94 LS the same

Front driver's side fender on my '93 LS got hit in the parking lot and unforunately Progressive totaled it. So now I have $2000 to try to fix it. So first off, can it be confirmed that 90-94 fenders are the same and pose no fit problem and more importantly, is the gold paint identical between the years. My LS is actually 4k7 champagne beige pearl but the used one's i find are always referred to as gold.
As always thanks for reading and all the suppotive help.

1989-1992 has a different part number than 1993-1994. Can't say what the differences are or if they matter.

For parts interchange, I usually look thru the parts catalog or find someone that has a Hollander Interchange Manual. Most all recyclers will have this manual (electronic or hard copy).

Compare LH Front Fender P/N's; Reference: https://www.lexuspartsnow.com/
  • 1990 - 53802-50010
  • 1991 - 53802-50010
  • 1992 - 53802-50010, 53802-50010, 53802-50012
  • 1993 - 53802-50010, 53802-50010, 53802-50012
  • 1994 - 53802-50012
  • 1995 - 53802-50040
Just looking at the part numbers, there was a lot of different fenders depending on the chassis production date. I'm guessing that generally, they'll all fit. However, because there were production changes there might be other parts that are needed or different holes, holes not lining up, corrosion protection, etc. Again, a Hollander should show these differences.

Paint Code 4K7; Reference: https://www.automotivetouchup.com/:
  • 1993 - Champagne Beige Metallic/Taupe Metallic
  • 1994 - Champagne Beige Metallic
Paint Code 4K7; Reference: https://www.paintscratch.com/
  • 1993 - Reddish Brown Metallic
  • 1994 - Reddish Brown Metallic
Paint Code 4K7; Reference: https://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorco...cgi?make=Lexus
  • 1993 - Taupe
  • 1994 - Taupe
Couldn't find 4K7 paint code for 1990-1992 and 1995 model years. I would say that no matter what name describes the color, it appears that paint code was only used for two model years.

Speaking from experience - 1990-1994 fenders will all interchange.

The difference in the panels is that the 1990-1992 fenders have undercoating applied to the bottom of the fender, while 1993-1994 fenders don't and show the body color paint.

Since you have a 1993 LS, the undercoating on the bottom of the fender won't be visible if you get a 90-92 panel, as it will be hidden behind the front rocker panel cover.

Now, for the paint... Paulo is right.

Unfortunately, 4K7 (Champagne Beige) is a rarer color, and was only available from 1993-1994. Meanwhile, 4K9 (Sanstone Beige) was available since 1990. No doubt that both will be referred to as "Gold" by junk yards. There is also potential that some will refer to 4K7 and 4K9 as "Silver" if they've faded.

However, there is a clear difference in the hues of the paint colors:

4K7 Champagne Beige:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1994-lexus-ls-400/

4K9 Sandstone Beige:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-lexus-ls-5/

4K9 is a yellower beige than 4K7

Oh and p.s - just to set expectations - All paint is subtlety different, even across different parts of the same car. Beyond that - it will have aged differently throughout it's life. So swapping a panel between cars may have a subtle variation depending on the light\angle as the edges of that panel are not blended with the one they were originally painted next to.

On the plus side, the paint quality on this car seems to be quite exceptional. It's rare to see sun damage on these 400's even though they're 25+ years old, when just the other day I saw a 9th gen Civic (2011-2014) which had already completely lost it's clear coat.

Yes it is, same for every Toyota/Lexus of this era. I know of of a 1993 Toyota that has spent its entire life in the sun paint and clear coat is still good. Faded yes but otherwise great. I find that salvage yard body parts match well enough cars generally spend about the same amount of time exposed. Exceptions of course. Gold paint tends to turn more silver at it ages.
