Default Any way to brighten up reverse lights?

We decided on a beautiful '03 GS430 back in January, ane everything about the car is perfect. Only complaint so far is the reverse lights. They are tiny!! They hardly produce enough light to see while backing up. We live on a dark street, with lots of trees, and it's almost impossible to see out the rear of the vehicle. There are 2 trees very close to the side of our driveway and both have had their fair share or cars backed into them.

I've considered reverting back to the older style GS taillights, but didn't really want to put older parts on. Is there anything we can do to remedy this?

I may just have to wire up some PIAAs under the bumper!!

Mystic,

Welcome to ClubLexus! I'm moving your post to the lighting forum where the folks who know how to tweak lights hang out.

yeah, the old style definitely shines brighter than the new, and since I'm feeling generous, I'll give you my superior old style lens for your inferior new style lens, we wouldn't want you backing your new car into any trees now, do we ?

I have the same problem. I have a bridge over a creek in my driveway that I have to back over when turning. I have a very hard time seeing at night, and if it's raining, forget about it! I'm not familiar with the lights you guys are talking about. Could you be more specific as to what I can do to brighten the back-up lighting? Thanks for any help.

read my gs lighting info at the top of this forum, i listed all the polarg bulb type there. basically what i did was to replace the stock one with the same type of bulb, but hyper white. it gives out a blue white light and is a bit brighter. i like it

I put some M6 Polargs in last night to see what kind of difference it would make. Much cleaner look to it, but I might consider trying a higher wattage bulb to get it even brighter to compensate for the tint on the back glass. hmm, anyone done a nice rear view camera on a GS?

Here is the comparison (polarg left, stock right)

Wow....thats pretty cool looking. What's the stock wattage on the reverse bulbs? I'm thinking about doing this too....and also replacing license plate bulb with M4s.

I believe the 01-03 lights call for a M6 which is 18w, while the 98-99 use a 22w bulb.
