Hi guys,

I was on ebay and noticed Philips 6000K HID kits for sale. The box is written in Japanese and there is no sign of "PHILLIPS" anywhere? Why does it say that the Ballast are Phillips, while the bulbs are made by Osram? Is this a component package? Finally what does Ultinon stand for? thanks alot!

 

yeah, ballasts have nothing to do with bulbs. they can use philips ballasts but osram or even cheapo taiwanese bulbs. both osram and philips are good though

 

So basically they are using Phillips/Osram parts and are selling them in there own box. Right? Is that legal to import an item and repackage it for another market through a different company? Whats Ultinon?

well not sure if it's legal to import them though, but yes, companies put them together and sell them as a package. ultinion is just the model number, it's like philips = lexus. ultinion = GS

 

I checked ebay before I got my 6000K kit and bidded on harleyproduct's auction. Then I got an email from a previous buyer saying that his bulbs weren't Ultinons but some cheap Korean copy instead. So if thats the product you are looking at I would have to caution you on your purchase.

I too am currently looking for a 6000k HID set. Best price I have found is from a GB my friend is doing is $380 for Osram 6000k. I think I might just get it from him. BTW does anybody have pictures of 6000k Osram HID kit?

I search through the form, but I have only found Phillips and Mchulloh pics.

 

Hmmmm Osram makes a 6000K?? After I found out that ebay seller was misleading I decided to research more about the OSram 6000K bulbs. I didn't find anything... I don't know if they even make a 6000K bulb because I see no mention of a 6000K version on their web site. I could be wrong though but so far I've yet to find any solid proof they manufacature a 6000K bulb.

 

Hmmm thanks for the info lude. The guy that is selling us the HIDs gave us three choices, Osram,Phillips, IPS. So I dont know now

yes, be careful with those links on ebay, they mostly suck. they will say "kits come with philips ballasts and bulbs" well, it's english, there are two ways to interpret the sentence. and most likely the ballasts are philips, which is not a big deal, but the bulbs aren't, which is a BAD deal

 

I sent Osram an email and they say the highest Kelvin they have is 5000K for their automotive applications. I'm not ruling out the possibility....I'm just saying that I have yet to see irrefutable proof that such a product exists. You can go to the Japanese Philips site and find the Ultinons being listed without much digging around. But I have not seen anything on Osram's web site regarding a 6000K version. It would hard to tell since most kits are rebased these days so you can't see the manufacturer stamp on the bulb base.

 

Osram/Sylvania's bulbs are part of their "Xenarc" line. They are actually officialy rated at 5400k. Philips Ultinon are marketed at 6000k but I they are actually 5700k or 5800k I believe.

my bad...so it's 5400K. Still , thats not close enough to be 6000K. So I guess they should be selling them as 5400K or maybe 5600K but not 6000K. Either bulb is good though, I guess...they're both German made from big companies that can afford the R&D to make something right.

 

yes, i believe i read somewhere that philips 6000k are actually around 5700k. i have put philips and osram "6000k" together, and from all possible angle i couldn't tell much difference at all
