Default Swap for yellow fog lights.

Hi. Any fellow GS (98 +) owner who has the yellow fog light would want to swap for the regular clear fog lights? This way, you don't
have to break the yellow inside lens.

I also checked the yellow Halo cover (from Philips) but doesn't seem to fit. Anybody tried this out?

NEW MOD: After changing the clear side markers, I connected them in parallel to the front blinkers. This way, they also blink when you turn on your blinkers-safe for other cars to see you when you're changing lanes! (Don't know if this is posted anywhere).

I'd split this post. Your initial request should to to the GS Classifieds as a 'WTB' post.

Keep the second section here, with some a Hot To write up; sounds pretty cool.

This sounds great. Can you tell us how you did it?

Lightbulb Side markers as blinkers

If this is in the wrong section, please correct or pass along to others. Sorry I don't have pics because I don't have a digital camera. I'll post when have camera.Hopefully somebody can post some pics if they try this out. Please take cautions when working with electrical wires. I cannot be responsible for any mishaps.

1. You need to extend the wires on the side markers by cutting
them and extending them with extra wires to the front behind the blinkers of the headlamp. Make sure you don't cut too close to the bulbs to make to difficult for the extension. Use electrical tape or screw caps to connect the wires for the extensions (Light bulbs don't need to have the right polarity because they are resistive load. It's like hooking up a resistor. You can check this by hooking up a light bulb first by + to - , then reverse it by- to +. The light bulb will light up eitherway).
2. The front turn signal is the small yellow amber light seen from the front. Check by turning on your signal or blinkers. Follow this to back and find the wires. You can see the wires also by finding the light gray plastic harness that holds the bulb between the main headlight bulb and daytime bulb. Most of the other bulb harnesses are black.
3. Expose the wires by splicing open the plastic covers. DO NOT CUT THE WIRE!!! Connect/wrap in parallel the extensions of the side markers to the wires of the turn signals. Tape around these new connnections.
Remeber, your side markers will not turn on when your parking lights/headlights come on as normal. They will flash along with your turn signals. Enjoy.

Thanks crazygs. Now what would be REALLY cool would be to put *2* bulbs in the side markers - one that comes on with the parking bulbs and the other that works with the turn signals!!!!!

Cool sidemarkers

I agree bitkahuna. I tried looking into that idea also, but seemed too time consuming.

try + from the signal light and + from the side marker (both go to the side marker, does not matter which side you connect in)
Look up the old trick on side blinker for honda, I don't remember much on this, but this way, you will be able to get the side marker to ligth up (normal) and blink also when you signal.

or put a relay there, circuit alway close, so the sidemarker stay on, but when the signal light come on, it will trigger the delay and break the circuilt to sidemarker, --> blink, need 2 relays, 1 per side

I think the blink sequence is off by one, ie the signal light up, the side will be off, and the signal light is off, the side will light, get it.

there is a more complicated relay circuit that allow full sync blink rate, but I havent tried on the lexus yet, i've done this on several car that I owned before.

Can you elaborate on this step?

Specifically, how do you Connect/wrap in parallel the extensions of the side markers to the wires of the turn signals without cutting the front blinker signal wire?

Wouldn't you have to slice open the front blinker signal wire, then splice in the side indicator extention wire?

What does wrap in parallel mean?

This sounds pretty straight forward, but I know next to nothing about electrical terminology.

Default side markers

Sorry about the confusion. Actually, you answered your question. Just like hooking up speakers, connecting in parallel means splicing the extension into the blinkers. When I said do not cut, I meant that it wan't necessary to completely cut the wire off. Just remove the plastics around the wires then splice it in. Hope this helps.

Oh, OK, that sounds pretty easy. So what guage of wire do you use to splice.

Forgive this gross illustration. Is this correct?

MSPaint - a wonderful, utilitarian tool

With electrical stuff, I need pictures / drawings.
