The manual states the low beam bulbs are H11. I contacted HIDS4LESS.com and got this response:

MAC

Dear sir,
I am sorry to inform you that we can not do the H11

This is what Proxenon told me...

I contact the our Manufacture's Asian Market Management.

They are looking into it right now. They said the hi-beam with our 9005 will work on your car. Since you car have a low beam sequence on the GX470 hi-beam.

They are looking into it with their Asian model right now. Will send me a full instruction of installation on GX470 Hi-Beam, if there is relay or fuse needed, the factory will send it to you for free.

And also the H11 is coming in two weeks. About the same time when I got everything ready.

Don't worry, no other company have even come close to develop the H11 yet. We are already on it.

Thanks

Joe

Hey, I know I'm not up to par on this subject, but isn't there just a bulb we could get for better low beam? The high beam is great, but when I switch to low beam it's like someone turned the lights off! Hate to get into something too involved and mess up my GX and warranty, so was just wondering. And what is H11? Told you I don't know much about this!

That really is the core of what the Proxenon guy is talking about. The low beam in the GX is an H11, they are producing a HID 6000k bulb.

I don't know of other bulbs.

raybeck,

Just to clarify. Aftermarket HID kits are available for several types of lighting. The most common are, if the OEM bulb type is, say, a 9005 or 9006 type of bulb, the aftermarket HID kit will install into the OEM 9005 or 9006 housing. It is simply what is referred to as "plug and play" technology. You simply take the OEM bulb out and replace them with the HID bulb. The catch is that you have to install the ballast which produces the, "juice" if you will, for the bulb. It takes some minor wiring and placement of the ballast.

You could just purchase aftermarket bulbs (commonly referred to as "superwhite" or "extreme white" or "hyper white" or "xenon"), which look whiter, to replace the OEMs but you are simply changing the "color" of the output. In some cases, depending on the manufacturer, you are actully losing output lumens (the amount of light being emmitted from the bulb). Many aftermarket bulbs also are known to "burst" or burn hotter than OEM specifications causing damage to the housing.

If aesthetics is what you are after, a good quality bulb like PIAA may be your answer. However, if brighter output is your goal, an aftermarket HID kit is that way to go.

Lastly, H11 is the type of OEM bulb in the low beam in teh GXs.

There are many very resourceful threads on this subject. Go to the lighting forum and do a search.

HTH. Sorry for the dissertation.

I really appreciate all the info on the headlights! It was very informative, especially for someone who knows not what they are even talking about! I will keep checking the forum to keep up with what everyone is doing. I definately think the low beam needs something! Thanks again!

Hello,

I received the following reply from ProXenno about HID kit for the GX470. Does anyone know if the high beam is also H11 type bulb? I was told the fog light is H3.

TIA!

============================
Hello,

Currently there is no HID Conversion Kit for your car yet. However, our German Manufacture is in developing of the new H11 Retrofit Application. Hopefully, they will release in the end of this month.

Remember, your car's application is H11.

Be sure to keep touch with us with this AWESOME New Products.

Thanks

Subject: HID for Lexus GX470?

Hi,

I am a new owner of the Lexus GX470, and wondering if you can help me selecting the correct HID kit for that model? I am interested in converting Low, High & and Fog.

Thanks!

I got the same response from them. I've looked all over the net. I have come to the conclusion that there isn't a kit available right now for the H11. Steve Ganz of Carson Toyota is also looking into a kit. Yes the low beam is H11. The high is 9005 and the foglights are H3. I dont think you'll need HID for all 3. It may be overkill. But whatever floats your boat.

I just posted this in anotehr thread:

"BTW, If any of you GX owners are interested in an aftermarket HID kit, I may have a connection but we need 10 or more for them to produce the kit. This is not a group buy. I will refer you to the company. Youjust have to let him know that it is in reference to my inquiry. The kits are:

4300K Philips Bulb
Philips Ballast
5 yerar warranty

Let me know through PM."

Thumbs up ---ditto--- here

am waiting for the H11 kit also from ProXenon

can't imagine why Lexus did not include it as a standard for the GX.

you would think a vehicle in the range of $47K-$56K would have this feature

did the swap like another user in this board on the wedge bulbs (Plasma blue/extremewhite)for the running boards and drls, they look much better.

i talked to them several weeks ago, and the last thing I was told is that they were not going to import them because of the stink surrounding the HID conversion kits. I haven't called them lately, but if any of you guys know of another brand please let me know. Thanks in advance.
