I am going to buy a HID retrofit kit for my GS300.
My questions are as follows:
1. What is the difference, in color, between a 4300 kelvin bulb and a 6000 kelvin bulb?
2. About how hard and how long will it take if it is a DIY?
I will be getting the kit from HID4LESS. Here is a brief description on the 6000 kelvin kit.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: 9006 stage 2 (6000 Kelvin) Xenon Retro-Fit Plug and Play Kit. Kit comes complete with 2 9006 Xenon Bulbs, 2 35w Ballasts and necessary wiring. All components are OEM quality and carry our industry precedent 5 year warranty.
Their price $699.99. They want $499.99 for the 4300 kelvin kit.
Is the 6000 kelvin kit worth the extra $200.00 dollars?
I won't the brightest/blueish look.
If you know where I can get a kit cheaper please let me know.
Also they say it is interchangeable with the fog lights. I was going to buy to kits (one for the low beams, and one for the fogs) is this possible?
Thanks a bunch, I yes I did the search feature but really couldn't get my questions answered. I posted it here in the GS forum due to more GS owners have probaly done this mod and are probaly more able to help me.
Yeah I was reading threw everyones post before and really couldn't find the answers I was looking for. I just really needed one person who has either done it or someone who is very knowledgable to help me. If they wanted to answer my questions in PM that would be kool to.
I also meant to mention they use Phillips bulb (Phillip Ultinons on the 6000 kelvin kit) and Hella/Phillips or Panasonic/Matu****a Ballasts. Are these quality parts. Might seem like some silly questions, but I have read alot of posts about people putting cheap stuff on the Lexus. I don't won't to be one of those people because I don't believe in knockoffs.
Use google, you can find HID retro kits for $490 shipped. Also, Steve from Carson Toyota (SupraTRD) was offering that same deal on McCulloch HID kits as part of a group buy. Phillips and McCulloch are the some of the best in quality/reliability when it comes to HID retrofits.
As you may see, the 4x00K bulb will be brighter than the 6000K one. If brightness is not a factor, then it's just the matter of color preference.
The above information was collected from various ClubLexus forums/threads and a simple google search. There are also loads of posts with pictures for comparison. If you cannot find anything suitable, try altering your search keywords. Also check the "Lighting" forum, where I see this post was moved. Just like Prego, "It's in there."
I just did alot of research on this topic for my GS300 and purchased the 6000k kit from Autolamps-Online. Every review I read about the 6000k kit was outstanding and I even noticed people switching out their OEM hid bulbs for the Ultinon 6000k's. They have a blueish tint but it is not that bad. I bought my kit from http://www.autolamps-online.com/ . I did not read one bad post about them and I must say they do provide what they promise. I had my kit in two days and it was packaged very well. Everything was brand new and I paid $579.00 delivered for the kit. 6000k Philips Ultinon bulbs , Genuine Philips ballasts , two relays with fuse holders , wire ties, and instructions. Very Very easy to install except you have to remember to switch the pins around on the plug that connects to the factory headlamp harness so they lock together. You can just reverse how you plug them in and tape the connection but I wanted to do it right. The entire install took less than an hour and was very easy. I strongly recommend doing business with Autolamps-Online, you will not be dissapointed.

That's my install on the SC400...shouldn't bee too different on the GS...there are a few people who have done this kit in the GS and I think they may have posted in that thread also with some pictures...
BOHMEN ?? That is a company I have never heard of. Why is their 6000k bulbs have a blue tint to them? From all the research I have conducted the bulbs with tinted glass are the ones to stay away from. I will say that their prices are reasonable !!
I will be getting mine from Autolamps-online.com. I also considered suvlights.com, but after carefully reading everyone's post I have come to the conclusion of autolights-online.com. If you ask why them I shall explain.
1. If you are on here alot than you will know what some people will and will not settle for. I have stated in previous post that I do not like knock-offs or cheap stuff. I do like bargains though. If you can't get quality roll stock. But back to the point you will also notice Manaray doesn't do cheap/poor quality products. Putting two and two together... there is some one else that shares my views and he has purchased and... is very happy with his purchase from Autolamps-online.com.
2. After reading one of his (Manaray) posts I noticed that Autolamps-online gives a discount to paid members. Henting to me that CL (Club Leuxs) recommends them as a repetable buisness.
And that is my reason hope it answers and/or helps you out.
Thanks for the info. I bought my kit from autolamps-online due to their great reputation and I am very happy with the kit I bought. This is how I looked at it when I was shopping. A bargain would be nice but we are talking about headlamps and those are something I cannot afford to do without. All I needed was to save a $100.00 or so and have my headlamps crap out late at night with my family in the car. Headlamps are a necessity, not a luxury in my opinion, and they always need to work. Anyway, you will not be unhappy with autolamps products, they are awsome !!
APLUS - Glad to hear that you are going to get the Autolamps...I'm glad that I was able to make a difference in your decision making...make sure to email me at GS430@mac.com so I can have the discount applied to you...
As for tinted kits, yes, I would not buy a tinted kit...tinting the lamp is essentially "cheating" to get the color. The Philips bulbs are forumlated to obtain the 6000K color. The bulbs are clear as day....
