Those of you who have 9006 headlights can use 9005. These bulbs does not have the gray tip which may decrease brightness and spread. 9005 are also a little bit higher in wattage than 9006.

To make 9005 fit in a 9006 connector: Take the 9005 bulb, Use long nose plyers and squeeze the 2 things that stick out inside the connector, just get rid of it.

Now just plug the bulbs in. My angle is much wider, road is much brighter and farther to see. I will not go back to 9006.

Hope this will make some people happier.

I cancelled my HID kit and opted to save the money.

I want to do this 9006-9005 conversion but heard from a friend who did this to his dad's LS400 that over the long run the wires become brittle and may eventually crack.

Anyone experience this?

i wouldnt be surprised if it happened, although i *do* want my headlights to be brighter.

I think it's only 10 watts higher than 9006, I don't know if that will really damage the wires. Use thicker wires if you are worried.

well i did this but the wires were already brittle. They become brittle from heat and weather. It happens over time. The conversion works well, and the wires become like that over time.

EDIT: fyi, my wires are brand new from the last accident my dad had with the car. we rear ended the other guy, his fault, so we got a new front end, radiator, etc. yay no brittle wires...

WARNING. DO NOT DO THIS.

Ok guys here is my story. I did what you guys descibed above about 6 months ago and trust me you do not want to do this. i even went a step further before installing the bulbs and bought a heavy duty upgrade wire harness kit from www.suvlights.com and it had a relay and fuse and everything. it worked great for about 2 months using a 80watt bulb after that my driver side wire was melted down to the wires and the base of the connector was totally melted. the passenger side same condition but not as bad yet. DO NOT DO THIS. its not worth it. the little cap on the tip of the 9006 bulb is to control the light for a reason. also on 9006/9005 bulbs the filaments are parrellel to the bulb anyways which means that the light come out the side of the bulb not the tip. i attach a picture to show you what i mean

trust me i have tried it all. i have bought over 20 pairs of fake HID bulbs and tried everything for better light. but nothing is compared to a real HID retrofit. even a HID kit is not as good as a retro fit.

if you have any question on HID or any lighting question post up and i'll try my best to help. I got sick of all these imitation now i have HID in my low beam and HID in my fogs.

The bulbs I use are the Sylvania Silverstar, price dropped $10. They aren't those extra high wattage bulbs, they are the correct wattage for 9005, so I haven't had any problems. Well the only problem is that they are not bluish or white white. But to my conclusion, 9005 has satisfied me over all of the 9006 I have tried.

I might get those Piaa 9005 and compare them with the Sylvania Silverstars. I'm sure Piaa's will win over Sylvania's.

Good scoop Jmai.. I had the same thing in my 92 Legend. The wires burning is true. IT WILL HAPPEN if you do this. I went through 3 pairs of pigtails just because I wanted to get those fake wanna be HID bulbs. Not worth the outcome. Instead of wasting time, money and jerry rigging... do the Lexus justice and get a no **** HID kit.

have you tried the exact same bulb except in 9006?? i'll bet if you use the same bulb except in 9006 your cutoff line will be a bit sharper and the light output will be more evenly spread. i found that when i was using the 9005 there was a cutoff line there and on the ground there would be bright and dark spot. give the sylvania silverstar 9006 a try.

hmmm so im understanding that i shouldnt be using this "h.i.d." type "super plazma xenon bulb" i just put in huh?

it says 80w then a red arrow points right and says 100w.

the entire box is in chinese so i dont know what its saying.

the number is 9006 though. it gives a nice white light i just have to clean my filmy headlights.

Don't use those high wattage bulbs, they will melt wires and sockets. Use 9006=55w, 9005=65w

than why do they make them in my size if they are the wrong watts?

and they are actually less bright than the factory ones i had in, how do you explain that?

don't use anything higher than 55w for your low beam and 65 watt for your high beam as stated above. the reason why they make them is because a lot of people don't pay attention or know about the damage it can do. people just think higher wattage must equal brighter light. it is true. BUT the blue tint that coats the bulb to create that white "look" makes the higher wattage bulb pointless.

also the higher wattage bulb will always be whiter. for example. if you take a bulb and run it at really low wattage like yuor DRL lights. since they are running really low power the look yellow. but when you turn on the high beam the become more white.

Just to keep things in perspective here, Rit&Booner is talking about using a bulb that is uses more power by 10 watts.

Your misfortune came from using bulbs that used more power by 30+ watts.

Trying to draw a relationship between the two cases I think is unwarranted.
