Default eBay HID conversion kit quality

I'm looking to hear from people who have experience with ebay HID conversion kits. I just put a PNP 5k kit - includes bulbs, ballasts, rubber grommet, all plugs/clips - in my 06 is250 and so far they have performed well. For the price of $38 I can say that I am pleased. I'm a little weary of quality/longevity and was wondering how long they usually last. What usually goes bad first: the ballasts or bulbs?

I'm not a pro on color output as this is my first experience with HIDs. Can anyone tell me if these look close to 5k? To my eye they look close...

Thanks for the input and here are a few pics!

Either or can go first.

My dad's RX had the OEM ballast go first, bulbs are still good.

Then used an aftermarket kit and one died after a year as well [the ballast]
