Default projector glass

well i took apart my headlights, took the projector glass off and this is what i found, the glass lip that runs around outside of the glass was and broken and cracked.

my question is, should i get new glass or just use it, it can still be held in place by the metal bracket. will this effect the light output?

thanks cl

no it will effect the output, but since you have the lens off, why would you buy some clear lens and put them on, they would give you better output, what are those lens came out off the car? if it is 2.5" lens then get the E30 clear lens they look very nice.

oh, since you have the headlight open, why would you do tsx or rx projector's retrofit? with some clear lens? it'll turn out nice.

Default 20 years on...

Wow 20 years since the last post.
I'm in the middle of doing mine and this write up helped a lot to know what I was getting into - figured if I messed up I could buy 3rd parts replacement for 240 on ebay. I used the oven at 300 for 4 minutes started prying it apart, put back in oven for same temp/time and it all came apart with not too much difficult or damage.

FYI -- if you do this there is a small screw holding the chrome center piece on the back outer housing so be careful and you try it out while fighting the glue.

FYI -- the cleanup for me is taking a long time and you should be aware -- a lot of scraping the original sealant / glue off and not easy or fast but you can get it done.

I found using brakecleaner on on the 'black body part of the housing helped clip off the glue -- seems to (a) freeze it up the bigger chunks a bit to make it more brittle and (b) melt the thinner stuff so it was a bit easier to scrap off.

Passenger side now has a tight fit so hoping seal will be good enough and waiting on the 100% black poxy.
