2 GS issue - headlight levelling no longer working. How to fix this?
I have a 2nd gen GS and was wondering if anyone else has had this issue - the headlight auto leveling system is no longer working.
Any idea how to fix this? I have tried removing every single fuse to check if any of the fuses might have blown and is causing this problem, however all fuses were perfectly fine.
Not sure what else to do. Headlights are in great condition otherwise. I had them replaced with the brand new units from a local Lexus dealer when the car was 4 1/2 years old. The car is a 99 GS400.
TIA.

Hameed, is it just one side or both? You should be able to see when you put your Key in and turn at the FIRST time where the headlight was on. The motor will not work when the when you just turn your headlight on and off repeatly.
After turning on the engine, then I turn on the headlights and neither one of them moves up and down to level themselves.
Also, the right one is now pointing higher than the left.
I park in a garage and there is a wall right in front, so it's easy to see that the motor is not working anymore.
Hameed, you need to turn on your headlight first before you start(key) your car. The motor ONLY turns up/level when you start your car. If you start your car first, then turn on your light, the motor already leveled, unless you have a second person to look out for that.
Your Left motor may be loose, put your hand on left when someone is key/start your car to see if it moves.... Try put your hand on the right side too... Good Luck!!
Both are not working.

I looked at the headlight leveling system diagnosis procedure in the repair manuals I have for my 00 LS. For my LS, the manual says that the fuse for the leveling system is the "PWR-IG" fuse in the underdash fuse box. However, none of the fuses are labled PWR-IG! The diagnosis procedure shows the approximate location of the ECU controlling the system (under the dash behind the glove compartment?) and the level sensors on the front and rear suspension but has instructions only on how to test the ECU and the two actuators by checking varous connector pins for continuity, resistance, etc.
The Lexus dealer must have better instructions -- my manuals don't really provide enough information to completely debug the leveling system.
My point is ... the headlights may be fine. The problem could be the leveling system ECU or that one of the level sensors on the suspension is bad or knocked out of place.

If you have the OEM Headlight with HIDs, then you would have the auto leveling. To check, turn the switch to auto put the key in the ignition and turn it on without starting the engine. You would then see the light move down then up. Hope that helps.
