Default Is300 Led Tail Light Project (updated 01/18/08)

Well i've been working on a new tail light setup for the last couple of days. I've been going to My.IS to get feedback. Now i want to share my recent work with the Lexus family. Tell me what you think.

Day 1: Separating the tail light (note: that red piece is a custom made circle to replace the stock defuser).

Day 2: Comparison

Day 3: Mach-up (testing the size of the leds and custom plastic replacement cover).

VOTE
Now that you have seen the two designs, i need help choosing the one that's going into production. What ever design gets the majority vote will be designed and i'll post pictures of it lit. As of right now the leds are just in place, they haven't been wired.

So cast your vote:
Vote 1: 3 row design
Vote 2: 4 row deisgn

Let the feedback begin!

I vote the 3 row, less busy.

Ever think about doing the Lexus "L". I think that would say custom.

3 row design. 4 row when lit will not show all the rows.

seems like a majority of you like the 3 row design. That's weird because the people on the "my.is" forums seems to like the 4 row design more. Maybe i'll have to combine votes and see what comes up ahead. Keep on voting and commenting so i get an idea.

Yea the 4 row design is more to simulate the reflection of the stock reflector bowl. It's not really suppose to look like 4 destint rows.

I like the 3 row design.
Where did you get the LEDS from?
I would like to use those in my SC300

id say fit the most you can, with the oem light diffuser. gives it a more even spread of light.

You can't use the OEM deffuser. It looks horrible with it on. I had to custom order that red cover from a local shop. The leds are lumileds. So you can order them directly from them. I've had these leds ready for a retro for a couple of months, i just now had the time to install them. The pictures are to small to see any details.

how does it look with the oem diffuser? i would think it would spread the light more evenly, instead of showing each and every individual leds. i personally like the even spread led lights, like the bmws myself. like the whole lit up area looks perfectly even. dont know if you like it like that or not. but i think it would look much better and less aftermarket.

I vote for 3 also.
and could you post a write up on how to make a LED taillight? I want to make one for my GS and I don't like how all the aftermarket ones use 01-05 taillight design.
