HID headlamps
Hello everyone I just purchased a new 02' RX300 without the HID headlamps. The dealer said that I would have to wait for a while to get one in stock with HID or get the Nav. Package. I didnt want to pay for the Nav b/c I didnt need it really. Is there any way I can get HID headlamps now b/c the dealer said they wont do it.
Thanks everyone!!!
Thanks everyone!!!
Depends on what you really want Jay.
I true HID (high intensity discharge) headlamp system has two major components:
1. The actual light, which is one of the clearest and brightest available on the market today.
2. The auto-leveling system. This was developed to automatically keep your headlamps pointed at the road as one came over peaks and hills or descended into valleys and dips. Without this system you'd either blind the driver in front of you (and illuminate less of the road in front of you) going up/over a hill, or point into the ground while descending (and illuminate less of the road in front of you).
Retrofitting this type of system is damn near impractical because of the lack of wiring for the ballast and leveling system.
If all you are interested in is getting a better quality light output (but not true hid) then simply replace the lamps with better aftermarket ones. PIAA is a great source for this: http://www.piaa.com/
Hope this helps,
TC

Yeah, you can go with a pair of 80w piaa bulbs and change the wires, That will give you a very bright close to HID lights. And the reason you have to change the wiers is because the factory wires will burn up with 80w passing though. There is a site where I got the bulbs and wires. And there cheap... Here you go..

Yes, you can certainly add an aftermarket real HID system to your headlights. I believe you are using 9006 bulb application, there are many different types of real HID system you can buy on the market.
Check on Ebay, and search for "Real HID"... you need to get the 9006 bulb application. Nowadays, the HID kit already has 7000K illumination, which projects a white/blueish color. Very nice, and very bright. Lexus's HID is developed by Japanese company "Denso", and you can get the ones from Hella/Phillips, Bosch, Osram, etc. The most popular and common aftermarket HID is Hella/Philips.
You won't have the auto-leveling feature unless your car comes with the factory HID lights.
I am not a dealer, but I've been an all time fan of HID ligths (real ones, not "superwhites").
Hope this helps, you can email me at hleo1@usa.net if you have more questions, I'd be glad to help you out ...
Have fun!
