Switch Out or Modifying Stock Ballast
My 1998 GS400 has oem HID, however I want to upgrade to 55W HID system (Don't worry I have projectors).
I know there is two ways to do it, either replace the stock HID ballast with a 55W HID ballast or "overclock" the stock HID.
Can anyone give me some insights on those two options.
1) Can I replace the stock HID ballast with a 55W HID ballast.
2) How can I "overclock" the stock HID ballast to have 55w output.
Thank You

It doesn't matter if you have projectors or not with that much more light output it will cause glare to oncoming drivers. Just make sure you get the whole kit with bulbs because the boosted ballast will shorten the life of the bulb by about 20%.
20% isn't bad comparing the 3000 hrs xenon bulbs have already. 2400 hrs is not bad bulb life.
The supercharged ballasts is a real pain in the denso ballast. There is a silicone type liquid in the ballast which you must first get off and then solder two small wires to a resistor. Which then goes to a pot. The hardest thing is to get into that area. There is a thread on here somewhere. Do a search i'm sure you'll find it pretty easily. It was originally done by a person in Japan. Directions are in japanese and then translated to english. good luck and keep us updated.
