Default HID's in your fogs?

HID's in your fogs???

someone told me that you do not want HID's in your fogs, only in the low beams. they said polargs would be better in the fogs because that is better at seeing through fog.

will they both look the same when just looking at them as a bystander? i was trying to match them to my 6k so i want to know if that is possible as well. give me some input as to if he is right or not please

If your doing this for better visability through fog then just put stronger yellow bulbs in. If you put a strong beam of light into fog it will just bounce around and make everything worse. Just my 2 cents, i got alot of fog where I live

You can find something to match the 6k in the lows but as SFFD said, it will make visability worse in fog. The best route is to go to HID's but use a 3k bulb (an actual fog bulb)

it all depends on the color. if you're going to install 6000k bulbs or higher then yes it will not help in the fog weather. if you however install 3000k bulbs, it will work better than just polargs or regular halogen bulbs. It's simply the color that is emitted by the bulb itself. Yellow is inherently able to cut through fog by not reflecting as much light off the water particles as a 6000k bulb. so if you are going to go for functionality, then i'd say 3000k hid bulbs should be fine, but if you are doing 6000k then funcionality of fogs is essentially lost.

food for thot: notice that all those oem equipped hid cars either come with halogen or fogs that tend to be on the yellow side while the oem halogen versions came with the same color halogen bulb for lows and fogs? think GS/IS.

this is a mighty interesting thread. I have made a few mental notes should I ever choose to put HIDs in the fogs for the purpose of better visibility.

well its not a question of whether i want 3k or 6k

6k for sure
function is not as important to me

i want it to match the lows
but... i want to know which would be better then the other polargs or HID... even if the 6k is worse, which poison should i pick in essence

I have 6k top and bottom, but I will tell you that when it's raining the ground isn't lit up as much as in the dry...

i guess since HID's are not meant for Fogs, then the obvious answer it seems is to get PIAA's or a knockoff of them and put them in the fogs at 6000k temp

H3 on an SC400 am i correct?

HID are only useable if the housing is made for HID. Throwing an HID kit in your fog light setup has the same consequence as putting HID in a low-beam halogen reflector. Fog lights are no exception.

If you dont care about functionality, then just throw in an HID kit and hope no one goes blind
