Unhappy Changing HID Bulb for GS

This is my second post of this, since no one answered my question???

How do you change the Factory HID bulb in GS? I am going to get the Phillip 6000K HID Bulb from the group buy. I need some instruction on how to change it. I had try to remove the factory HID before and was not successful. The HID need different instruction than the one w/o the HID. I saw Lexusrules post, and it will not work for HID headlight.

The last time I look at the HID, after removing the plastic cover on the back of the light, the HID seems to be lock by two screws… Unless I can remove the whole housing, it would almost be impossible to change. Especially the driver side, where there was not much room left.

Help..

Default will NOT work!

Well, in th efirst place, why would you want to replace one HID lamp with another?

But...

Buying an aftermarket HID lamp/bulb will get you nowhere, it is designed as a "retrofit" to readily and easily replace standard incandesent lamp, H3, H7, etc.

Your GS is already equipped with a socket/recepticale unique HID factory installations. Unless you downgrade your entire headlamp assembly to incandesent first you will not be able to upgrade/retrofit it to the phillips bulb/lamp.

Unless, that is, Phillips was actually the OEM supplier to Lexus to begin with, then you can go to phillips and buy an "UPGRADE".

Good luck.

Hey wwest,

The Phillip 6000K HID bulb is a direct replacement of the factory HID buld. They same model: D2R.

The factory one light up from bluish to little yellowish.

The phillip 6000K has blueish/purple look even after a while.

Here is the link with some picture that you can see:

Let me know what you think.

Default Color Spectrum

Are you sure about this, a photograph usually is never color "true" and here you also ahev the wild card of different PC monitors...

An electric arc discharge is a s close to pure sunlight as one might get, seems to me any tinting at all be be un-natural.

I've had the Philips 6000k HID bulbs replacement before and I can GUARANTEE you that it is bluer/purpler, brighter, wider, farther , and DOES make a difference.

After having those Philips 6000k, my stock HIDs seem yellow.

yes and no.

YES because they're really ALOT brighter. I don't need to turn on my foglights to see better. Color is GREAT, range is GREAT.

NO because they're so expensive and can be harassed by cops.

If you can afford them, get them. If you have something else better to get, get those instead. These will be nice to have but nothing to be placed on the top of the mod list.

I am looking for that same answer because I also want to replace those same bulbs with a 8000k HID bulb. In back of the housing, I know that you have to unscrew the plastic cover that seals the bulbs. There seems to be some sort of a clamp holding those bulbs in place. I also see some screws, but I don't know if those need to be removed.

take off the screw on the outter circular plastic cover, turn it, take it away. you will see the power connector. turn it, take it away. then you will see the bulb, held by a metal wire clip. hard to explain here, but play with the clip and loosen up the bulb. do NOT take off anymore screws, you are going to seriously mess up the alignment

Bulb question? I have RX300...with a burnt HID bulb. What type of HID do I need to get (D2R, 5K, 6K...etc)? Also do I need to replace the other bulb as well?
