Default loosing high beam or fog functinality

hey guys,
next mod in line seems to be hids.
But i read that by converting the low beams to hids using an a/market kit you loose the high beam function and your fogs don't work as normal(i.e they don't turn on with the lows as normal)
how true is this cos i want to put hids in the lows and fogs.Or does this just affect GSs with factory hid?
i have a 98 GS300 with non-hid housing by the way and i have searched for days before deciding to post this.
thanks guys.

You will be fine. The high beam will work fine and so will the Fogs.

olddog - i have the same car you have - 98 GS3 with non-hid housing.

Whatever you read - disregard it. Once you swap out the halogen bulbs in your low beams for an HID kit, they will still work the same as when you had halogen bulbs.

Since you want to do HID fogs too - you have the same unique option of doing what I did - swapping the turn on leads for the kits.

When you hook up the HID kits to your car, the passenger side factory light plug will turn on and off the HID kit. It is the same concept for both the low beam and fog light. The cool thing about this setup is the factory light plugs for the fog light and low beam are so close together that you can switch which plug controls which kit.

So - if you hook it up normally- you'll turn on your low beams and only your low beams will turn on. If you have your low beams on and then turn on the additional fog light switch, your fog lights will come on. Same as stock right?

If you switch the plugs, the opposite will happen. You'll turn on your low beams and only the fogs will go on. Flick on the additional fog light switch and then now your low beams will go on.

That's how I run my setups.

hey cliffud,
i would like to do this but here is where am lost.
i have no knowledge on HIDs and can only perform this mod cos of my extensive research on CL.
Can you show me which plugs you are saying i can switch to reverse the low/fog lights? are you talking about actually putting the low beam bulbs in the fogs and vice-versa, cos technically, that would do what you are saying also. Or you are saying there are plugs that can control these lights and reverse them.
thanks again

EXACTLY. Both sets of bulbs are 9006 so the turn on lead for the relay on both kits will be 9006. All you have to do is swap them and you've then reversed the controls for the lights.

sweet,
give me another 2 weeks and they will be done.
BTW cliffud, where did you mount the ballasts for the fog hids? And did you do a retrofit cos i heard using a/market kits with our reflective headblights causes too much glare.
