Default 35w vs. 55w HIDS

what's the difference between the 35 and 55 watt hid bulbs?

There are very few HID bulbs that are built for 55w. Although brighter, they have a much shorter lifespan than your normal 35w bulbs. In most, if not all cases, 35w is more than sufficient to light up your road for your daily commute

if you use a 55w ballast (either boosted or real 55w) with a 35w bulb, how fast will it die?

some people have reported the bulbs' live decreased to a few months of usage. It really depends though, but i dont see it lasting that long.
