Default i dunno what i did to my HIDs, so lemme explain

this morning i was half asleep still. and i have a corolla xrs and the DRL is in the low beams. so of course everyone said that that would make them flicker and stuff, so usually my kits either unplugged during the day or i have my lights on. but this morning i wasnt thinking and took my parking brake off, and didnt even realize the DRL turned on(my HIDs), and so i hear this kinda tick-tick-tick-tick noise and look under the hood, and realize its coming from my relay(i have a philips kit with the relay goin to the battery and stuff), so i was like uh oh. but my lights and stuff turn on fine and what not, so i was curious as to what they did. so i turned my car off and turned it back on and took the parking brake off. mine didnt really do the whole strobe light thing, they just looked like they were kinda shaking a little bit, and went out. what happened, was it the relaying protecting my Kit, or was i killing my ballast, or my relay or what?
