Center dome light on my 96 es blew out the other day....i was thinking about buying LED replacement on superbrightleds.com...but i cant tell if its 31mm or 3omm festoon bulbs....does anybody know what size they are?
What's the trick to getting the lens cover off the dome light in the ES300 second gen. ? I need to replace the bulb too, but I can't figure out how to get to it. Don't want to pry it off and break something. Oh, and the same with the "personal" light which is just to the right of the moonroof control buttons on the headliner. how the heck does the lens cover pop off?
There's no mention of it in the manual - just says take the car to your Lexus dealership when a bulb needs replacing.....yeah, right.
How many Lexus technicians does it take to change a light bulb?
Two - one to swap the bulb, and the other to write it up:
Parts: 1 center dome light bulb @ $25 ea.
Labor: 1.0 hr @ $100 per hr.
You didn't take it to Lexus did you? Lol, just pry at it with a flat knife. I think Lexus' policy is an hour minimal or something. They charge me hourly rates for the simpliest things that take 5 mins to do.

No, I didn't take the manual's advice and go to the dealership to change a bulb.
I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help out though!
Not only do they charge outrageous prices for labor, but parts prices are ridiculous as well.
I'll try the knife trick.....I just don't want to break the plastic dome light cover trying to take it off and then have to buy a new one for $85 or something!
So, i just replaced the bulbs today.
In order to remove the plasic cover, you need to carefully insert a very thin flat head screwdriver on the right side of the light (the side across from the switch) and you should see two tabs which is where you need to pry open. When i did it, it popped out and flew to the font seat, so be careful. I tried pulling the entire light out, but there are 4 screws that hold it in place.
Also, I also ordered my lights on superbrightleds.com. I bought the 3022 festoon 9 led white bulb ($5). They are only OK. I didn't like the color..reminded me of a florescent light. The light dispersion was also ok, it didn't matter to me as much as the color. I think some other options are polarg bulb?
