Question for you electrical people: Voltage drop?
I seem to have a problem with one side of my HIDs. When I turn on the lights and the ballast is plugged in, the voltage drop is only 7V. When I don't plug in the ballast, the voltage drop is normal at 12V. I checked the ballast and it works fine on the other side that still runs at 12V. What could be causing this?
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.
What do you mean 12v drop? If that was the case you would have close to 0v on the line
How are you measuring the voltage to get that numer? Or did you mean to say that without the "drop".
Have you tried switching the ballast to a different side. Have you tried running the ballast directly to the battery? If you switch to the other side and the problem migrates to the other side, then your problem is in the ballast. If it stays on the same side, then it might be a problem with your wiring harness.
Are you running a relay harness from the battery or not? If you are using an aftermarket ballast, and are running without a relay harness then that could be your problem. The car's stock harness does not have enough capacity to run some of the cheap and less efficient aftermarket ballasts.

I'm guessing the ballast, Thang. However, it could be a ground problem also. Before you do any purchasing or replacing, sand the grounds associated with the circuit very well.

Should have suspected something like this when I saw some calcification on the grounding wiring. The ground wire was just a little loose. Thanks B!
