Default GS Brake lights

Couldn't find any help for replacing main brake/tail lights on GS's... pretty stupid question, I know!

So here goes: 2001 GS 300
I removed the carpet lining in the trunk, and now all I see is a metal plate cover with an electrical wiring going inside... Im assuming that has all of the wires for the lights in the back.

Now, should I remove the metal plate cover or unscrew the electric wiring first?

Thanks!

two clips on the side of the taillights along the trunk lid pop them, see two 10mm bolts, take them off

behind the taillights, you see 2 10mm nuts, 10mm deep socket, take them out

then you can pull out the taillights

Woa, its a bit harder than I thought. So that metal panel behind the lights in the trunk does not come off...Thank god I did'nt try to yank that off!

I'll have to try your directions tonight.
Thanks!
