Well depends on what you are working on. In the ECU it is usually brown.

If you are asking what a ground wire does - you best do some reading!!

Yes, what Jonny said. Maybe you should be more specific in your question
But I can add that, electricity has "positive" and "negative", the negative is the "ground" wire. (on our cars anyway)
