Default HID questions

I am looking for what set up everyone is using that has HID lights on their sc.....i know this is kind of a lighting forum question but i am really just wanting to find out about what everyone is using for their sc...........i am thinking about using the bmw e39 projectors but i have a few questions about bulbs.....if i went with the phillips setup with the 4300K bulb would it look identical to the new bmw lights? to me the new bmw lights have a slight blueish tint to them and that is what i am looking for.....if i went with the 6000K bulbs would it be even more bluish or more of a purplish color? i hear that the 6000K you lose brighness and also causes more glare.....i am looking for a clean factory look......

now for the actual headlight housing, if i put the bmw e39 projectors in there would it look ok..considering the headlight housing was not meant to have HID bulbs in there......i know you have to do stuff to make everything fit but i am talking about the looks of it? i am looking at illusion lighting and wanting to get everything from there....i think its like 400 bucks and then you have to install all the stuff yourself....has anyone done this and how difficult is it? also on their website they talk about a cosmetic trim piece , does anyone know what they are talking about and what it is for?

basically im still deciding on whether to do the 4300 or 6000K.......so if someone can tell me if the 4300K would look identical to the neew bmw lights so long as i went with the e39 projectors that is what i will get.....but if not i will go with the 6000 because i do want a slight blue tint to them but not to overwhelming.....

so if anyone has pics of their setups on the road and of the actual headlights i would appreciate it.....or if you can help me out with any of these other questions....i went to intellexual and gathered as much info as i oculd from there

thanks
ryan

You said it With as many questions as you have I would definitely take it to the lighting forum for correct answers. I personally prefer the 4300k just as an FYI.

you can use the phillips hid bulb part number 85123 (this is my set up) but i hear people say
my lights look more like the mercedez with a little purple/blue output on them..........even during the day...which i didnt even believe at first but it was confirmed with few cl members here..
not sure if that's what ur looking for . i waz using the 4100k standard (85122) and it's more of a white instead of blue. by the way, im using the e46 projector instead.

hope that helps..

I can answer a couple of your questions. The stock bulb for all oem cars is the 4300 Phillips or 4100k Osram bulb. The 6000k bulb is a replacement bulb. If you want to use E39 projectors and want the OEM E39 look then go with the 4100/4300k bulb. The 6000k bulb does give off more of a purplish tinge.

Do a search and you'll be able to find a lot of info. I remember seeing a tutorial a little while back of someone's conversion. If you buy the stuff from Illusion Lighting then ask them for assistance. Another site to check is hidplanet.com. There's tons of HID related info there.

I decided to go with HID retrofit kits for my cars instead of doing conversions. It's not as good as a conversion, but it is definitely one of the best mods I've done. It's a lot easier to do as well. It took me a half hour to do each car.

Good luck on your project.
