yea i think they do go over the bulb itself, that's why i was wondering if anyone tried it. cuz it would seem the color would eventually melt. iono maybe i should be the guinea pig here since it's only $30... then again that's like a week's meal for me.... hrm..
I just received three of the 9006 capsules from Sean @ hidtech.com for $37.00 total to retrofit my '99 GS300 clear fogs. But I can't seem to get the glass cover off the front without cracking or breaking it. So, if anyone wants them, let me know. I think I'm going to save up for the yellow fogs.
They look great. But, you have to somehow attach them to your reflectors after removing your front lens cover. I slid them over the bulbs and tried them out in my fogs (by sliding the capsule over the bulb then sliding it through the back as far as I could) and they looked great. I just don't want to risk breaking the glass. So, if anyone wants them, let me know.
I wish it worked that way, but the metal at the bottom will not fit in behind the fog lamp housing. The yellow capsule slides through perfectly but no farther than the metal, so you are forced to remove the front lens cover...

That’s exactly why I asked, I didn’t think there was a way to fit in there either without removing the lens cover which is a big no no thanks to water condensation.
Hidtech said that they had not done a retrofit on a GS foglight and would most likely cut the back off and glue/seal it back on if I sent it to them. So, for the parts plus $100 labor I now know it's just as practical to buy some new OEM yellows.... I guess I'm stuck with the caps. I think I'll add them to the lights on my Christmas tree.........
For the 9006 capsules you have to remove the glass from the housing by the oven trick or heat gun. Drill 3 small holes in the reflector, mount the capsule tabs(3 of them) in the reflector, bend them downward or upward to hold. I would use JB weld or something on the back of the tabs for extra hold. Then seal the fogs back up and you have yellow fogs forever.
