Default Headlight Condensation

So my car spends the night at the local dealer for scheduled service. I've owned the car for almost 3 years without issue. Pick it up tonight after scheduled service and both my headlight and running light on the driver's side have moisture on the inside of the light housing. Anybody have any experience with this type of situation? Any suggestions.

a lot of GS owners have that problem, you can try to request the dealership to replace them

Like rominl said, it happens on a number of GS. If your car is still under warranty, definitely get them to replace it.

Default Good News

Looks as tho the dealer will pay the the cost of replacing both my drivers side Headlight and running light due to this problem. He is supposed to get back to me today..

But here is another couple of questions:

1) I am thinking of also replacing the passenger side headlight and running light at the same time so they will match. What can I expect to pay? Carson Toyota says $900 for the passenger side set (both lights HID headlight) . Is this true? OMG

2) How can I tell weather or not I have the HID type of lights?? My car is a 98 GS4 with NAK.

Any additional help or suggestions are appreciated-

Doug

In the case of the 400 that is not true, HID was not standard. I know someone that has a 98 GS400 that does not have HID

Does your headlight self-adjusts when you turn on the car/headlight?

If you are still under warranty and you can show them the condensation, you should not have any problems. At least I have not heard of anyone with problems. Once you are out of warranty, though, it is like pulling teeth.

If you are still under warranty, run don't walk to the dealership and do it now.

Default Thanks

Yes I do have the auto leveling headlights and would assume they are HID.

I have yet to hear back from the dealer regarding their offer for replacement. I am trusting that they will take care of me as they did on the lock actuator they replaced (under warranty) yesterday. I will keep you guys abreast of the developments.

PS-$900 bones to replace the headlight/running light on this car is unbelievable. Parts only mind you, no installation (Carson quote)

Maybe you can work out something with the dealer. Depending on your relationship with them, maybe you can convince them to let you pay a discounted price for the other side. Depending how bad/old looking the other side is, you might be able to make a case.

Part of the install is taking off the bumper. If the dealer is already installing one, installation should not be doubled to do the other(or at least logic dictates )

It never hurts to ask.

if you have autoleveling, you have hid for sure. yes, a full set of hid housing (one side) is about 1k, very expensive stuff to replace yourself. honest, i don't think it's a good deal to pay yourself, unless if they replace it, it doesn't match well, and you can request them to do the pessenger side too. fair enough. i mean, they can't do it so both sides look different

and btw, gs430 comes with hid standard, but on gs400 it's always an option.

Default I concur

Yes Neo and Rom-

My hope would be to have both done at once (bumper off already) to insure match and lessen install cost. The problem is that only the drivers side has shown condensation. So, ultimately I bear bear the financial burden (to insure match). Sucks for me eh?

Never heard back from the dealer so updates won't come til Monday.

Thanks again for the input-

D

Default Good news bad news

Well-

Monday came and went with no call back from the dealer regarding my issue. Of course now that 72 hours have passed and my car has been in the garage all weekend (Raining in SoCal + putting my 19's back on) the moisture has dried up. No proof of moisture, no case to plead.

I will monitor the headlights/running lights closely as my CPO is set to expire 11/2004. You guys were right about RUNNING to the dealer when I saw the moisture.
