yep, I've ridden in a supra with a claimed 550 to 600 hp and it was freakin' scary. Whiplash on demand. Even though it would probably have to move another 1K lbs., it would probably give the new M5 a decent run for the money at least.
i read an article (in car & driver, i think) when the 2001 LS430 debuted. if i'm not mistaken, they said that a Lexus corporate guy (not sure if from US or Japan lex corporate) hinted that the next full redesign of the LS would have a V-12 option. that said.....
i'm pretty sure toyota has had a V-12 for a long time now (only used in Japan, i think?). seems like if the new and soon-to-be-introduced ("bungled") M5 will have a V-10, lex would be quite wise to sqeeze a 12 banger in any M5 competitor that's due out as late as model year 2006. seems like lexus has made wise decisions in the past....if i were a betting man i'd say that this could be a serious consideration on the drawing boards. (check recent car articles....carpoint.com......the luxo market is in the middle of a horsepower race)
also, on another forum, i think i recall it being said that the next generation GS will still have the inline 6 option??? i'd sure as hell hope so. an inline engine is better than a V engine any day of the week. considering that the current inline 6 had its roots in teh supra engine....and certain people (with bottomless wallets) found the need to turn that into ~600 hp engines.....ya'd think lex wouldn't mess with this (that's resting on the assumption that lex cares about the incredibly tiny portion of its consumer base that would take modifications that far).

First off, I don't see Lexus getting into the HP race...just doesn't seem their style, because while everyone else is making big numbers, Lexus will have the top notch luxury and creature comforts. Secondly, the current GS has an inline six, so yeah, it probably will be available on the next generation GS as well, unless they switch over to the 3.3L V6 (Nooooo).
I hope that is the next IS, not GS. Way to much front overhang for me. It looks like the SC 430 in the front. But if u look at my posts, I called that the new GS would be shown at the Tokyo show a long time ago. I should work for Lexus...

I agree, but if you sit back and look alot of cars are like that they look good or "OK" but when you get to the back its all crappy messed up looking... I don't get it...
I really hope that this "Lexus Future Sedan" is not the new GS. It's been said before, but I'd agree that they're taking too many styling cues from Mazda and Audi. It looks like the designers got too tired when they reached the rear end of the car.
I don't know, maybe they're trying too hard getting over being labeled as "too conservative".
