Default Airbag recall / repair

I just scheduled my airbag recall repair. Has anyone else had this done already and were you pleased with how it was handled?

Lexus has been very helpful with the process so far, even offering to change my oil at no charge while the car is in for service.

An interesting tidbit I found out was that they have completed 71 cars, there are 16 currently scheduled and 39 more that need to be done. This would bring the total number of LFA's in the US to 126.

Their bean counting feels funny

we know they brought 174 plus or minus in to the US

1 car was dropped off a carrier and presumed kaput

a handful moved to Canada and Europe

my guess is that some owners are keeping the car for collect ability and may be declining the repair, but it seems like a lot

Default Recall

My process was handled wonderfully - very professional car carrier service worked with me on pick up time; loading was perfect. Car was away about 2-3 weeks (I was in the process of moving so I was in no rush).

Lexus sent some goodies to me for putting up with the process. Said they detailed the car as well.

Well done overall !

What exactly is replaced on the LFA? Are all components under the dashpad? Are any of the components actually attached to the underside of the dashpad airbag opening? I would assume that the dashpad itself does not need to be replaced as part of the airbag recall, any clarification for those whom have had the service?

Process was easy. Picked up and dropped off on special closed carrier. 3 weeks. Got an autographed bottle of wine, autographed gloves and this. Awaiting another set of the same for my Nurburgring lfa. In the meanwhile was given a brand new lc 500 as a loaner as well

I had a blast reading your post because I stopped at "was given a brand new LC500" and thought wow Lexus really wants to impress the LFA customer. Then I read loaner in the next line.

Did they bring the loaner to you as well as putting your LFA in a truck or did you drive your LFA in?

I sent it in. Live in a private neighborhood on a cul de sac. Carrier would have trouble getting into the area. Dealer was about a 20 minute drive. Was fine with me another excuse to drive the car. The loaner was from lexus corporate. Brand new less than 20 miles. The dealer thought I bought it from corporate lol. They gave me free mugs, hats, shirt etc etc at dealer. LC 500 seemed like a nice daily driver if you would want a coupe. Put about 2500 miles on for the 3 weeks i had it. The only thing i didnt like was the gimmicky LFA dial with a redline at 7200 rom. Why show all the way yo 10k rpm if 7200 is the end. 1/3 of dial was basically there for no reason

Yeah, it doesn't match up with anything that Lexus employees have told us, from corporate down to the regional PS'. It'd be funny if they just aren't counting the ones that are dealer-owned/registered, in which case now we know.

I had a very brief, in-passing dialogue with a corporate rep on this a few weeks ago, so don't take it as gospel, but: Apparently for the US, one single specialist is taking care of all LFA airbag replacements. That's why the full process is taking so long and there is a long window scheduled for each individual car in terms of shipping/turnaround. The dash itself does not need to be replaced. While the dash is removed, the specialist is doing a full examination of all components under the dash, checking for anything ranging from significant wear issues down to rattles. All cars will be detailed, so for those owners who haven't sent their cars in yet, definitely let Lexus know about any minor clear coat damage on your car before shipping your LFA off.
