Whatever numbers were current or allotted, the actual number is probably around 145 now that some time has passed. Rich folks can move them country to country, and with accidents we can lose them too.
Lexus corporate (meaning global) really wanted LFA exposure in the USA, so they upped allocation several times. I posted on here before that when I first started talking to Lexus USA about LFA distribution (way back even before I received my allocation in 2011), the number I heard batted around a lot was 120! So really, we went from 120 to 150 to 173 to whatever it actually is now.
Considering that many buyers were denied in Japan and Canada and other countries, it's obvious Lexus wanted the cars to be here in the USA for visibility reasons, and that's why there wound up being a surplus. I'm glad they are getting exported so that buyers in other countries who really wanted them all along are getting them.

I guess this is one of the (few) negatives about a product that a company doesn't care if they profit directly off of - they also have no motivation to distribute units to demand.

Quite a lot of those LFAs left the US.
There are at at least 2 US spec LFAs now in Canada (one white in Ontario and one black in BC).
Also, Roy Mallady's #003 silver LFA now lives with its new Polish owner in Poland.

I remember reading on here that Lexus tried to keep exporting from happening by trying to keep dealers from servicing LFAs that were not from their region. That's a pretty tough task, though, as I'm not sure any dealer would otherwise be unwilling to service their company's best and top product.

and in this thread we have been talking about cars going OUT of the US?

Or it's illegal to have a car in California scream that loud due to noise pollution?
