Default LF-A name will change to LF-L ?

I could not find any topics on this, so I hope its not a repost...

A few weeks ago we heard about a possible name change for the Lexus LF-A but it was more of a total name change to indicate the cars power output and “super sports” moniker (SS550). Holiday Auto go on the record to claim that the new Lexus supercar will be simply named “LF-L”.

We’re told by Holiday Auto (HA) that the last letter of LF-A will be changed to “L” to signify its appearances at Le Mans and to draw on its pre-production racing development. Also, there will be no numbers to signify the engines output or displacement as some sources were led to believe. We’re told that this information has been leaked ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show in October specifically to generate hype among long time followers of the LF-L. Not convinced? With the amount of changes the LF-A/L has gone through in recent times it seems anything is possible in the lead up to October. As far as the engine and driveline are concerned there isn’t anything new, the LF-L is still expected to debut with the 4.8L “1LR-GEU” V10 with rear mounted transaxle and sequential six-speed gearbox.

You just beat me to it! I was reading about it a minute ago...

I'm not quite sold on the LF-L name, it sounds like another of the concept line, e.g. LF-C/LF-X/LF-S etc. If they want to turn LF-A => LFA, sure since "A" is the first letter, first for supercar, otherwise a different name altogether might be in order.

I'd rather them just call it the "LF" than "LF-L", I think.

The single L moniker sounds like the long-wheelbase version of the LS.

Perhaps it would have been better to just call it the LF, but all Lexus concepts have been called the LF.

It would be weird to call it the LF-F, but it would have been most appropriate.

I'm still surprised they are keeping the prototype moniker of "LF".

It shouldn't be LF-F. We'll have the IS-F, the GS-F, and maybe an SC-F.

Being in the supercar class it should distinguish itself from the F line completely.

LF-L sounds kinda weird and doesn't make sense or follows any of the other Lexus models designation pattern. Maybe Lexus should just name it simply "F"...

I can live with LF-L than SS550 that was flowing around, but i hope they keep the LF-A name.

I like this, subtle change but still LF-A that we've all come to love.

That rendering looks great. On the topic, I doubt it will be called the LF-L. It sounds awkward. I hope they keep it simply as 'LFA', since that is what a lot of insider info from Japan has been pointing towards.

On a side-note, I REALLY hope they race the LF-A at Le Mans. The Lexus brand needs to be participating in major motorsport categories in Europe, and a perfect way to do it would be to race the LF-A at Le Mans, and possibly continue racing at the Nurburgring 24 hours race as well. This along with the upcoming CT hatch for Europe will really help elevate the Lexus brand in Europe.

I also hope the SC race cars in Super GT get replaced with LF-A cars.
