I'm buying a 2019 ES 350 and need to decide between the standard audio system and the Mark Levinson system. I am a classical music fan, so booming bass for the whole neighborhood to hear is not of interest to me. Seriously, though, I have read lots of pros and cons of both the standard and ML systems, and would really appreciate a few words from other classical music lovers to guide me in making the choice.
I don't mind at all paying the extra $$ for ML if it's the right sound choice. I'll often listen to SiriusXM Pops, Metropolitan Opera, and Symphony Hall. Also, play MP3 files from my phone and CDs as well.
i don't listen to classical music often but the ML's improvement over the standard stereo isn't focused on additional bass (although it does have extra bass). The extra speakers are mid - high range improvements and with classical music being a mid - high range type of listening, i suspect you would greatly benefit from the upgrade.
We just got a 2019 non ML GX this weekend, almost bought a 2017 sport package Luxury With an ML system but my Wife liked the newer car. Needless to say I pumped the stereo in both and must say the ML system in the 2017 did sound better. More clear highs and more punchy bass but when I turned up the EQ on the 2019 I felt like the system sounded about 80-90% As good as the ML system. I am no audiophile but I recognize good sound and would not let a GX without and ML system that’s a great deal slip by because it does not have an ML system. This being said if you are optioning a new GX I think the $1,000 the ML system is definitely worth the money.
