My 2001 GS300 was attacked by a tree during a rain/wind storm on July 6th, and the rear window was broken. Because of the way the window broke, most of the water from the ongoing storm came in directly onto the rear deck and the ML subwoofer, and very little came in on the back seat. The window was replaced last week, but I'll have to wait until the beginning of August to have some minor bodywork done and anything else that was affected.
The car dried out in the two weeks since this happened, and I played the crap out of the ML system over the weekend, and it still sounds as good as it did before it got wet. The guy at the body shop said that he looked at the sub, and it has a few water spots on it, but that I should try it until I get the body work done. At this time, I can't justify replacing it, since its still working like it did before the storm. What do you guys think? If it works now, will it continue to work, or it there a possibility that the water could have caused some damage that won't show up immediately? Since I also have the factory NAV, are there any other components for that or the ML system that could have been damaged by the water that should be checked out? At this time, the NAV is also working fine.
the subwoofer cone is sealed, there isnt really a chance the water passed the rubber surround into the spider or voicecoil. i highly doubt it even touched the speaker aside of the moisture on the face. if it ain't broke don't fix it.
