Default Can I make a PS2 work?

I'm getting my system together right now and the only thing left for me to get is some type of DVD payer. Due to price I have kind of decided on a PS2, plus it can be used for gameplay too. I searched, and the only info I found was about the sedans (GS, LS, ES) and their Playstations. I was just looking to see if anyone has found a good place to make a PS2 fit ANYWHERE in the SC. One guy I found has one but he hasn't posted in about a year so that might be a dead end. Please leave this thread here because it is SC specific. Thanks for any help you can give.

How far do you wanna go? it can be custom mounted in the glovebox IF you are willing to have the guts removed from the glovebox. otherwise, the trunk is the only real option. i'd chunk the cd changer and mount it there

Thanks for the ideas guys. The problem is, I have an Alpine changer too. If i mounted the PS2 somewhere else in the trunk, how would the controllers be fed through? Could I get those extension things and have them come out somewhere? Any ideas will help. Thanks.

Wont fit in the glove box.....Maybe if you took the PS2 apart to give it a smaller 'footprint'?? Or depending on your year you could remove the airbag..but you didnt hear that from me because I would NEEEEVER Alter a car

Also,
There was a 'GS guy' a while back that took apart one and had it refitted into a smaller 'box' and ended up just having the tray slide from the dash...Looked kinda nice too!!

Good luck!!

How the heck are u gonna operate the ps2 from the trunk. AS for me i got it under the driver seat. It fits right under the back , just slip it right in. I got the remote in the middle compartment so u can just press a button and the ps2 starts playing the movie or whatever.

Mine is a 92 as well. Ive got an ECU and 2 Laptop hard drives and misc 'stuff' in there. A PS2 wont fit because theres less than half an inch between the heating ducts ducts and the back of the glove box.

Re-route / Alter heater ducts and other 'stuff' to fit a PS2? ...I wouldnt do it.

It would be an easy install if you had an airbag and was willing to remove it

I guess you could get extensions for the controllers or use wireless and extend the remote 'eye' to the front of your dash.

If all else fails...under the seat it goes!!

Anyone else use these things while driving? bumps??

something you wouldn't do to your car???

when i did mine it didnt face strait out i removed the glovebox lining and installed it at an angle (rear facing the sky towards the windshield). the PS2's seem to work facing any direction. i used the underneath space i gained to house the games (i didnt have many). the angle was just steep enough to allow the door to eject but i had to mod the glovebox door to swing upwards (ace hardware ) i agree there isn't room to do it conventionally (you already knew that).

p.s.- i signed your guestbook miss ma'am.

jdmSoarer, im thinking that it may just have to go under the rear seat. Do you get any problems with people kicking at it and scuffing it all up? Oh, and by the way its a 1996, so the airbag option is not gonna really work. If its under the seat I could wire the IR eye somewhere up front correct? And your controllers, they can come between the seat and the center console? Sorry if I seem to be asking a lot of questions, but i think i'm gonna go ahead and wire and mount the PS2 on my own. You guys have been great.

I actually did have to mod a lil bit back there (I wouldnt have done it for a PS2 tho) to clear room for a few layers of heat protection to stop my ECU from heating up and cutting the car off.
Im actually working on it right now.....Adding a fan to the system and re-finishing a few connections on one of the boards.

You can use a heatgun for about a quarter inch on the bottom half of the duct....any further and it will make a funny noise

Thanks for taggin' my G Book

jet864...Im not 'Thread Jackin'

Just use all wireless controllers for your PS2 and use the wireless DVD remote as well....
from there use IR extention kits or just rip the eyes out and extend the wires to mount them anywhere you want.

that way you can do something cool in the trunk with it........and not have joystick wires all over.

Good luck

Mine is mounted in the passenger feet area.. there is plenty of room for the passengers feet, and you can't see it through the window..
