Unhappy CD & Tape Distortion (Radio OK)

Just bought a 94 LS400 with NAK system. When in radio mode, all speakers sound great (even at loudest settings). All "functions" of tape and CD perform perfectly, but the sound is awful (distortion). Almost sounds like blown speakers when CD & Tape are playing, but AM & FM are fine. Anyone ever have this kind of issue. I don't want to go aftermarket, but I gotta play (at least) my CD's. Any thoughts are appreciated.

That's one of the strangest things I've ever heard. Must be a problem inside the headunit since even on tapes you are getting distortion. You can try removing the headunit from your car and taking it to an electronics repair store. $50 to tell you what's wrong and at least twice that to fix it most likely. They can check the capacitors and the resistors, etc.

The dealer is obviously just going to tell you it needs to be replaced so don't bother asking them.

Thanks for the input. Seems to be a unique problem. Par for the course when I work on cars....
