92 Pioneer Tape loader belt replacement
Parts needed:
"SCX9.5" drive belt
phillips screwdriver (big and small)
10mm socket wrench w/extension
Cassette not loading? Cassette or MP3 adapter just slide in and never seats? The Tape loader belt is dust. Remove the radio and climate control assembly and get to work. All ribbon cable sockets with "ears" pull up to unlock cable and push to lock. If its smooth, its a push fit so feed ribbon in slowly in a straight line. Those ends are usually reinforced.
1. Loosen 1 side bracket and remove Climate control unit
-- NOT NEEDED -- 2. Remove the rear telephone-in amp(?) off back of radio with 6 screws and remove the 2 ribbon cables
3. Remove the top plate of radio (no screws)
-- NOT NEEDED -- 4. Remove the faceplate (2 screws and clips, and large ribbon cable) Vmay not be necessary but its very simple. Ribbon cable may be taped to socket.
5. Remove the 4 screws holding the cassette mechanism in and gently pry the daughterboard on the side out of its socket. Use a thin screwdriver in the PCB notches and pry up on chassis.
6. Remove the bottom plate (4 screws)
There you go, that black blob of goo is what is left of your old belt, or it may just be broken and wrapped around the drive pulley. Remove the goo and/or belt.Go online and buy a 9.5" square cut belt. The part number I bought was SCX9.5 (https://octopart.com/scx9.5-mcm+electronics-5368074) $5.00 and it worked fine. It sits in V groove pulleys like a diamond so just make sure its not twisted when you put it on. Belt path is from drive pulley under first pulley then over second pulley and then back down to drive pulley. like this o_/=0. I found that if you wrap the drive pulley to the far pulley and then pull the belt into the bottom of the middle pulley, everything fits in. Whole operation after the radio was on the bench was about 30 minutes and most of that time was learning how it all fit together.
PS>> make sure tape is not in unit when you put faceplate back on (if you pulled it) as the tape door will be stuck in the closed position and the inserted tape will not eject.
