Default hardwiring valentine one HELP!

I cannot understand what I am doing wrong with hardwiring my V1! I took off the console where the map light and the homelink is. I have the black wire from the V1 direct wiring kit underneath one of the two screws that are most visible after removing the kit, and I have tried connecting the red wire from the v1 with the blue plastic thing to the yellow, black, and red wires coming from the rear view mirror, but nothing!!! I started the car to test it out, but its not working! My V1 is fine, as I have tested it out with the cigerrete lighter and it works fine in there. Does anyone have any insight at all to this? Please help.

UPDATE...
I can get the V1 hard wire to work fine if I hook up the red wire on the V1 to the red wire from the homelink system, but when I try to hook it up to the red wire from the rearview mirror, it doesnt work! Anyone have ANY help? I want my V1 to go off as my car does so I don't kill the battery by mistake. Thanks!

Go and get yourself a 12 volt test light from your local auto parts store. You want to tap into a 12 volt power source that is switchable (only on when key is on).

Default thanks

Hey, i got some stuff from radio shack. I am just waiting for my dad to get home so I can try installing it again. Depending on how much time I have, I will try to make a full tuturial on this (I have noticed the others are incomplete, or confusing).

Actually, there are only 4 screws holding up the upper console. 2 behind the square plate under the lexus link for the garage opener and 2 under the dome lights. Once you get them off, the whole upper console comes off.
