I drive an old 99 GS400 and as you all know the Nak sound system was stock in it. I always thought it was pretty nice, has good bass, competes with road noise pretty well, and can give you a good headache with high possible volume and fairly low distortion for a car stereo. I never felt the need to upgrade until now..............
And why?
The way Lexus is talking about their stock Levinson systems it's like it's a quantum leap forward in sound quality, volume levels, and thumping bass potential over the Nak.
I haven't heard this new system so I was wondering if some of you have owned a pre-Levinson GS400/430 and a post-Levinson GS430 and could give a review on the pros and cons (if any) of the new system. Is it so much better that those of us who don't have it are missing out on something?
I've had both (actually, still do if you count "her" RX); ML is an improvement over Nakamichi, but not tremendously so. As with the Nak before, however, it is almost certainly the best OEM system on the market. But I'd say you're not missing too much. Bass may be a little tighter and the top end a little more defined, but I also changed "listening rooms" (SC to GS) when I changed systems, so really can't compare apples to apples.
But if you were changing cars anyway, I'd be sure and get ML.
