Default GS4 Install Pics

After much pain w/ installers (man some are real butchers) compounded with my temper and "screw it I'll do it myself" attitude here are some install pics.

Since you have covered your amps, have you checked them for running temperature (especially on hot days)? Always nice to know that you have enough airflow and your amps aren't getting too hot. (The 500/1 runs fairly cool, though. Don't know about the Alpine.)

Default Cool Amps

I checked them - no problem. I you look close, the cover is frame covered by a black nylon type cloth. Heat and airflow thru it is fine. I valet the car alot - having it completly exposed srceams "steal me!!!!".

what sub is that?
how does it work with the free air application?
Do u think it would hit as hard as a Kicker 10L7?

YEAH, I hear you about the valet thing. I even put in a 'valet switch' - a hidden on/off for my relay turn-on, so that a valet guy can't turn the amps on. Prevents anybody from blowing anything up, or otherwise getting any undue joy.

Default Sub

Image Dynamics 12".

I liked it better than the JLIB4 and its not expensive. Around $200 bucks. It works well in free air and can hit quite hard. Percy digs the velodyne, I couldn't even find one which means its great, since those who have them are not letting go of them. I curoius to hear about the Dyn Audio in free air.

This sub is a good cross between SQ (my preference), SPL and price point. It sounds good all around w/ the right power.

I tried a sealed enclosure w/ a JL 10W7. Loud and too peaky and much ghetto boom! Its probably a good sub - but not for my taste

Pretty clean setup. Have you seen those IDQ V3's? Image Dynamics have really improved them comparing with the previous model. In any case it is a good choice of sub for IB, it has good balance of quality and loudness and it behaves very balanced in this kind of setup. Almost no peaks at all.

Very nice install pics. I have the JL IB4 currently, and I am contemplating whether or not to get the Dynaudio MD190. Also, do you get a lot of rattling? I get it from the top trunk lid and the 3rd brake light cover that keeps hitting the window. I gotta fix it because its driving me INSANE.

Many are waiting to hear what the Dyns sound like in free air ... Please post if and when you get it.

Comments NOT intended to offend...

I tried the 10W7 in 3 boxes in several directions. No good for my tastes. I tried a W3 in one of the boxes - again no good for me. I tried so many confirurations I can't count - could be I just missed the "nirvana" JL setup. I just havnt any luck with the JL subs - they must be good they sell like crazy... Actually I take that back, I had 2 of their microsubs in my truck and it kicked butt. Its all relative...

In the home stereo world Krell amps draw top dollar and sell like crazy ... In my system, I wouldn't listen to one if I could get it at 90% off! Again my taste.

fast400:
Your Krell comment strikes me as odd, different. Not that there's anything wrong with that.... :-)
What kind of music do you listen to? (I'm wondering whether what you listen to needs a more subdued bass, and other amp characteristics.)
