has anyone tried installing an OEM Lexus navigation from another model into their 92-96 ES? Aftermarket navigation units are cool, but I like the factory look of the OEM nav, so i was wondering if someone has done this, or does someone at least know if this is possible without a tremendous amount of custom work...

obviously i know that it won't be as easy as snapping the thing in place, but is it something that i could undertake on my own, considering i have intermediate electronic knowledge? i suppose the hardest thing would be to actually fit the thing in my dash and still retaining a factory look, next problem would probably be locating the speed sensor cable and other cables and getting it to connect to the nav...

any help is much appreciated...

 

SORRY THE 96 ES NEVER HAD A NAV UNIT EXCEPT IN JAPANESE DOMESTIC MARKET VERSION. IT IS HARD TO SWITCH OVER A LEXUS EVEN IN A MODEL THAT HAD A NAV UNIT AS AN OPTION. BANANAGS DID IT IN A 98 GS BUT HAD TO CUSTON MAKE A CABLE TO DO IT. THE USA ES300 GOT THEIR FIRST NAV SYSTEM IN 2002 AND THAT RADIO IS ALL TOGETHER DIFFERENT SIZE..................................................................................................................... i just checked my jdm lexus literature collection and the aristo gs300 got nav in 96, the sc in 95 and the ls in 95 but as near as i can tell there wanst even a nav system in an es until the body style changer in 97. so even in japan there was never one available from the factory in a 96 es .none of the other radios fit in the es dash so niether would the other lexus nav units. you could plug it in but it woundnt fit in then dash right. that goes for all the radios of lexus. all the different models es, gs, ls, sc, rx and lx all have different shaped radio dash compartment size.. the 98 gs and ls nav systems look the same but since the gs radio is half inch narrower an ls nav unit wont fit. all the plugs on the back of the units are the same but not the size of the units.
