Anybody had problems like this?

My NAV seems to be degrading in performance as the years progress. It is taking a long time to get a GPS lock (icon) and sometimes never does on two hour or better rides. Nice days, with a good line of sight around.

Also, sometimes when tracking to a destination, it starts to veer off the road and today went in a circle for a mile on the screen before returning to the road I was on and started tracking again. it is not uncommon for it to show I am heading south when I am heading north.

I like to have a pretty good idea of the problem (or severity) before I bring it in to the dealer. They always seem to come out and tell me I need thousands of dollars in repairs for something simple I can do myself because all they want to do is swap out large components.

Thoughts?

PS - It is a stock 1998 hard drive based system with the Fall 02 update.
