I suppose you could try the alignment first is see if that fixes it. The laser sensor in the bumper is subject to damage - especially the glass lens. Some people have tried to repair the lens with limited success. A problem I had and one of the reasons I sold my 2000 LS400 recently is that Lexus dealers seem to lose interest in repairing older cars and older technology. I think 2003 may have been the last year that laser cruise control was used but I'm not certain. Adaptive cruise control is now all radar oriented with the sensor hidden behind the grills.

You should be able to use the cruise control in conventional mode by pressing the cruise control lever forward for at least one second. This has to be done before you attempt to use the cruise control in adaptive mode. It's explained in your owners manual on page 248 and at http://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/do...5U/pdf/3-1.pdf
