Factory Security system

Just got my factory system to work in my 98 GS400.Just got a key that the remote works and there's like no distance.You almost have to be on top of the car for it to arm,disarm or pop the trunk.Is this normal?

did you change the battery on the key fob? that was the problem with mine.

No as it was a new fob.Will give it a try. Do you think I would have to program it again?
