Default Subwoofer Replacement

So I'm thinking about replacing my stock subwoofer in my 2000 ES300. I don't know a whole lot about upgrading car audio. Would it be possible for me to buy any 8 inch subwoofer with the correct voltage, Ohms, etc... and get better sound? (Such as this one

) Or do i need to buy an amp and completely renew my audio system?

No audio guru but I am almost certain you'll need another amp to run the aftermarket.

Its not as simple as replacing the sub due to the factory sub being free air. I have an 06 GS and replaced the 10inch factory sub with the one in your link but wasn't satisfied with the outcome.

Granted it hit harder than the factory sub but I blew that Kicker in less than a week because the amp i used from a previous system had to much power.

The sub in the link is not a free air sub therefore it doesn't work well in free air application. Either way if you replace the factory sub you have to add an external amp. The best route is to add an external amp with a 10 or 12inch sub in a ported box. Its not hard to do and will give you the low end base you are looking for.

In the GS world some people added an external amp to the factory sub...

I personally don't recommend this route but it may work for you depending on what your looking for and the type of music you listen to.
