Default Steering wheel stereo controls

Looking at the Electrical Wiring Diagram (EWD) for my LS430 I can't find how the steering wheel control buttons are wired into the stereo/CD/navigaiton. In the Repair Guide Vol. 2 it shows the 'modulator' for the buttons, but doesn't show how it's connected to the steering column wiring harness. Do you think it's a single wire setup, like many car manufactures use? This is when each button pressed presents a different resistance value compared to ground?
