Default Need substitute to JL Audio 10Ib4

JL Audio 10Ib4 has been discontinued by the company and I cannot find one anywhere. I am looking for another comperable subwoofer to replace my stock 10" in my 99 GS. If anyone can give me some ideas I would appreciate it.

Unfortunatyely IDMAX 10 is not out yet although I have seen/listened to it extensively. Either wait till they ship at the end of this month or get a IDQ 10". Both IDQ and IDMAX work great in freeair they were made for that purpose in the first place.

It says on Sounddomain.com that the IDQ should not be used in a feeair setting. I would hate to spend $160.00 dollars on one and destroy it !!! Any ideas ??

I ordered the ID10 V.3 since it is rated to be used in a freeair setting. It was only 109.00 so hopefully it will sound good in the factory opening. I will be running it with a Kicker KX400.1 . Hopefully this sub will perform as well as the JL I cannot find.

Believe me, the best application for ID subs is IB. As a matter of fact their demo car uses IB setups. If you look at the specs of the sub you should compare the Qts value. The lower it is, the better it is going to work in IB application.

IDQ is a good replacement for IB4 in it's price range. If you want something more expensive, I would look into Focal subs. With all my dislike to Focal component sets, their subs are amazing.

Lightbulb Another Option

U also might want to listen to the Pioneer TS-W254F 10" sub. It's a 4 ohm model that sells for around $85 or so. That's what I originally had ( for about 6 months ) when I was planning on a simple upgrade & not competing again. It's fairly accurate & will yield decent SPL plus U won't need as large an amplifier due to the 4 ohm confiuration. I love JL's but the IBU is 8 ohm.

I almost ordered the Pioneer since it was a little cheaper but wanted something a little more "higher quality". The image dynamics subs seem to have awsome reviews and quality. I am taking a gamble with this sub buy honestly feel it will be the replacement for JL. I called both sounddomain and image dynamics who both agreed that this new ID10 V.3 will perform fine in an IB setting in my GS. They also said not to use the IDQ in the rear deck unless it was installed in an enclosure, they said it is not designed for that. Anyway, if I can find the JL I will use it instead or maybe I will try both out and compare..

Question Maybe?

Cop - I MIGHT be able to pick up an IBU for ya at my friend's shop if U're that serious about it. ID's R awesome subs & if they get Pete's ( Retrodrive ) recommendation as an OK free-air application then U should feel confident about them. Personally, I was considering changing out my RF's for either JLW7's or the Focals Pete mentioned but neither model is inexpensive!
IMHO - I put Pioneer & Kenwood in the same category of good, solid equipment but not QUITE high end. Still worth looking into for a basic inexpensive upgrade.

I appreciate the advice and am happy to say I found a JL 10IB4 at a shop about 30 miles away. I took a gamble and called every JL dealer in my state within 75 miles of my home. I found one and he charged me retail . I would have paid $200.00 for it since it is an awsome sub everyone raves about and it is new. I cancelled my order for the ID10 and will be installing my new sub this week when the amp and wiring kit get here !!! Lucky Me
